Insects, Birds and Animal Art

Insect, bird and animal art can all be traced back to ancient civilizations. Cave drawings in the south of France shows renderings of man hunting bison, as well as hunters being killed by the beast they hunted. Ancient Egyptians took animal art to a whole new level—as diety. By the 15th century animals were depicted in very Realistic terms.

Insect, bird and animal symbolism is often depicted into art. For example, a dove may symbolize peace, innocence, fidelity, love, gentleness, kindness, whereas a crow would symbolize sacred law, gateway to supernatural, shape shifting, illusion. A bee might symbolize a divine messenger, a dragonfly—ancient knowledge. See this interesting and comprehensive listing.

Animal art today takes many forms, from symbolic to abstract to realistic, and created in virtually art form and expression.
