Mythology Art

Mythology, or allegories for natural phenomenon, and for philosphical or spiritual concepts, have rode hand in glove with human history to this day honoring ancient Gods with the naming of our modern day spacecraft. As such, much of humanity's art have revolved around mythology in some way. Mythology, like symbolism, art and poetry, often conveys meaning to bigger than life concepts and ideals.

All cultures have their shares of mythology and mythological art. Though the New World was heavily influenced by Roman culture, Columbia is the feminine personification of the United States of America, so named meaning the "Land of Columbus." The personification came in 1776 with poetry of Phillis Wheatley and in time was portrayed goddess-like—The Goddess of Democracy. Columbia stands perched atop the US Congress as the Statue of Freedom.
