Portraits are artistic representations of persons, and may take the art form of drawing, painting, photograph or sculpture. The earliest believed portrait dates back 27,000. Ancient civilizations in Peru produced portraits, as did the ancient Egyptians. Portrait sculptures flourished in Rome, first realistically, then ideally. Portrait paintings and drawings have been popular ever since those mediums became in vogue. Today, photo portraits are most popular and massly offered in every major department store, KMart and Walmart across the country, as well as in professional photo studios. Though paintings and drawing portraits has taken a sharp cut in demand since the advent of photography, there still is an appreciation and market for this fine art. Pet portraits are increasingly popular for fine art works.
